Dear Friends,

 

As you probably know, Prof. Ky Fan passed away.  He died peacefully on March 22, 2010 at his home in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of 95, after years of battling stroke and cancer. 

 

MEMORIAL

·         Bulletin of the Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica will have a special issue in memory of Prof. Fan (C.Y Chien, chien@jhu.edu; Bor-Luh Lin, bllin@math.uiowa.edu)

·         The Linear Algebra and its Applications is preparing  an article on Prof. Fan (Bor-Luk Lin, bllin@math.uiowa.edu)

·         The International Linear Algebra Society bulletin IMAGE plans to feature an article about Prof. Fan (Fuzheng Zhang, zhang@nova.edu);

·         In this coming June, there are two international meetings dedicated to Fan, one in Pisa, Italy and the other in Krakow, Poland.  The presentation in Poland will be entitled "Ky Fan: Beautiful Results and Beautiful Life". (Fuzheng Zhang, zhang@nova.edu)

·         A memorial conference in Beijing in August, 2010 is being organized by Profs. Kungching Chang and Shisun Ding, sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society and Peking University (C.K. Yuan, yuanzifi@yahoo.com)
